To Block, or NOT to Block (the sun)?

Should you use sunscreen? Well if you listen to “the authorities” the overwhelming answer is “are you kidding me, OF COURSE you should you ignorant moron!”. Ok, well maybe they'll say it nicer than that, but that IS what they'd be thinking. See it's not even a question any more, “everyone” from the CDC, to the Cancer Society, to your local “doc in a box” knows that sunblock is the best measure for lowering risk of skin cancer. But IS IT?

On the CDCs website you can see two images. The first is skin cancer rates BY STATE, the second is skin cancer rates OVER TIME. Now if you look up sunscreen on Wikipedia you'll find it was invented in the 1930s and has been widely used from the 1960s on.

So here's what you see looking at the two charts. On the BY STATE chart, either I'm understanding it that Washington, Oregon, and Kansas get MORE SUN than Texas, New Mexico, and right here in Alabama, OR exposure to the sun LITTLE to do with the whole skin cancer thing. As for the chart OVER TIME, either NOBODY is using enough sunscreen while “Global Warming” is exploding our exposure to UV radiation, or sunscreen has had ZERO effect on lowering skin cancer rates and has arguably made it WORSE.

So what then is the TRUTH? The fact is, typical chemicalized sunscreen is one of the WORST chemicals you can put on your skin. TRUTH is you need at least an hour of full sunlight every day. TRUTH is skin cancer like any other cancer has very STRONG links to Vitamin D deficiency associated with lack of sunlight exposure. TRUTH is it's getting TOO MUCH sun all at once like running a marathon with no training that your body doesn't handle well. TRUTH is you body knows exactly what to do to accommodate sun exposure (ever here of a suntan, or an African?). TRUTH is the “doctor within” ALWAYS knows better than “the authorities”.

I answer to and trust fully only ONE authority. How about you?
